LuLu's Cafe

LuLu's Cafe is the type of joint that is jam packed on the weekends and mornings...we're thinking all the folks lined along the curb of Beverly are waiting for a divine breakfast brunch adventure in comfort food. So, on a recent crisp late morning we parked our Foodiebootys at LuLu's Cafe to try some breakfast treats. We ordered the house scramble; lox benedict; and cinnamon-walnut banana pancakes.

Bless their good intentions and creative menu choices. Nice ideas, falling short of that splash of love to sauce it up, so to speak.  You know the type of food that is drenched in flavor, sauce, savor, punch and wowwee yummy to the tummy attitude... the kind of flavor & texture that could hit the spot the way most comfort food is designed to do... ? I wanna say in one word "DRY". Can we say?.. the chefs in LuLu's Cafe kitchen reside in realms of a desert like universe. A dry place; a barren terrain without sauce; love; flavor; and zest for life. What about simple taste...nothing a little grilled onion and garlic sauced up on a griddle couldn't add... like robust flavor that could bounce off those breakfast fries-- so easy and so much potential?  How about the idea of fluffiness of a banana walnut pancake that screams, look at my texture, my banana buddies and walnuts dancing in the dough and---"eat me-- I dare you faint of caloric carb hearts!"

Contained, controlled, under-exuberant, flat.. and simply DRY-- is more accurate a word to convey the personality of these breakfast choices.  Even our waiter was an extension of the LuLu's Cafe "Dry" paradigm.  All it takes is one impression. It was a DRY one. Sorry LuLu's :( Your food is pretty and We love your menu concepts. There's some love lacking in the execution, but its obviously not a problem for the neighbors lining up to have the LuLu's Cafe experience.  See you in the next life soldiers.  And for those of you who like dry presentation, flavor, execution and containment that's controlled.  Head over to our local LuLu's Cafe to eat you next breakfast brunch snack.
